Digital terrestrial television (DTTV or DTT, or DTTB with "broadcasting") is a technology for terrestrial television in which land-based (terrestrial) television stations broadcast television content by radio waves to televisions in consumers' residences in a digital format. DTTV is a major technological advance over the previous analog television, and has largely replaced analog which had been in common use since the middle of the 20th century. Test broadcasts began in 1998 with the changeover to DTTV (aka Analog Switchoff (ASO) or Digital Switchover (DSO)) beginning in 2006 and is now complete in many countries. The advantages of digital terrestrial television are similar to those obtained by digitising platforms such as cable TV, satellite, and telecommunications: more efficient use of limited radio spectrum bandwidth, provision of more television channels than analog, better quality images, and potentially lower operating costs for broadcasters (after the initial upgrade costs). Different countries have adopted different digital broadcasting standards; the major ones are:

[ARGENTINA] DRAFT DECLARATION REQUESTING TO EXPAND THE DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL TELEVISION CHANNELS (TDA) IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES OF COVID-19. We know that there are many families that have the economic possibility of accessing resources such as pay television, Direct TV or Netflix, but, unfortunately, there are households that only have open television as an option for information, entertainment and quarantine. In these cases it is where we believe that the TDA «open digital television» becomes a very important tool for democratizing communication and audience access to diverse and quality programming, but above all free. We believe that it is possible and necessary to expand the number of channels currently offered by the TDA, which technically makes it possible for there to be four signals where air television allowed space for one, and this is thanks to the video and sound compression system that this technology offers. To this end, we not only think that it would be convenient to expand the offer of the current channel grid, but also to carry out a government policy that values and promotes the contents of Digital TV, also betting on the opening of competitions for encourage the inclusion of more actors. We believe that the State is responsible for guaranteeing the human right of access to communication and information and that it must be pluralistic and at the service of social needs. www.senado.gob.ar/parlamentario/comisiones/verExp/1101.20/S/PD?fbclid=IwAR3josE2-QfzJSWdDni7EzKxkUdx-Pif7rWDfUXHbaix2frqnniqUHIEBMU

The Portuguese government doesn't like adding new multiplexes, it will be the same old multiplex until something makes television obsolete.
Gone are the days when DTT in Portugal promised more choice and even a fifth television channel. The 2008-2009 crisis and PT's mismanagement helped make DTT a failure here.
